An extraordinarily special motorcycle and one of the most iconic Ducatis ever built. This 1975 Ducati 900 Super Sport is a genuine Australian-delivered example presented in stunning condition, combining breathtaking period styling with the raw mechanical soul that made Ducati legendary.

Widely regarded as one of the most important sporting motorcycles of the 1970s, the 900SS traces its heritage directly back to Ducati’s Imola race-winning machines. From the flowing half fairing and wire-spoke wheels to the bevel-drive L-Twin engine and hand-built Italian character, every part of this motorcycle feels authentic, mechanical, and deeply collectible.

Finished in the classic silver and blue livery, this example presents beautifully throughout. The paintwork, alloy finishes, chrome exhausts, engine casings, and original-style details all combine to create a motorcycle that looks every bit as special as it is historically significant.

The photos speak for themselves — this is not a rough old project or heavily modified example. It is an incredibly honest and beautifully preserved Ducati with exceptional presence.

One of the standout features of the bike is the original-style cockpit and Smiths instrumentation, giving the rider a true 1970s endurance racing feel. The bevel-drive engine layout, exposed mechanicals, and delicate fairing design are pure vintage Ducati perfection.

Features include:

* 1975 Ducati 900 Super Sport

* Genuine Australian-delivered bike

* Legendary bevel-drive L-Twin engine

* Original-style silver and blue factory livery

* Classic half fairing and café racer styling

* Wire-spoke wheels

* Twin chrome exhaust system

* Smiths instrumentation

* Service history included

* Exceptional overall condition

The Ducati 900SS is considered one of the crown jewels of vintage Italian motorcycles and remains one of the most collectible Ducatis ever produced. These bikes rarely become available in this level of presentation, especially as genuine Australian-delivered examples.

Whether destined for a serious collection, display piece, or selective weekend riding, this is a motorcycle that draws attention from enthusiasts immediately. It represents a golden era of Ducati engineering before electronics, rider aids, and mass production — when motorcycles were built with pure racing passion and unmistakable character.

A truly beautiful and investment-grade classic Ducati.

1975 Ducati 900SS Square Case – Restoration Summary

I have owned this motorcycle since 1987. For many years it was my only registered motorcycle and was regularly ridden and enjoyed on both local and long-distance touring rides, including multiple trips from Central Queensland to Phillip Island and Eastern Creek. Throughout my ownership, the motorcycle has proven exceptionally reliable and rewarding to ride.

Shortly after purchasing the bike, the frame and swingarm were professionally inspected by Phil Beaumont Motorcycles in Albion, Brisbane. During this inspection, the swingarm was found to be slightly out of alignment and was subsequently corrected.

From early in my ownership, I began sourcing and collecting rare genuine Ducati components, recognising even then how scarce original square-case 900SS parts were becoming. This included original items such as:

Aprilia switchgear

JOD headlight

Correct wide headlight rim band

Genuine mufflers

Correctly numbered exhaust headers

The philosophy behind the restoration was to preserve as much originality as possible, rather than creating an over-restored concours display motorcycle. As such, a number of original components have intentionally been retained with their natural patina and character, including:

Gauges

Indicator lights

Chain guard

Wherever possible, the motorcycle retains its original hardware. Original bolts, nuts, washers and brackets — many featuring the correct factory stampings and detailing — were carefully cleaned and replated rather than replaced.

The original rims were rebuilt using correct Alpina Dacromet-finish spokes. The rims themselves were only lightly polished to preserve originality and material integrity, meaning some minor imperfections and marks remain as part of the motorcycle’s authentic history.

Chassis & Bodywork

Frame professionally blasted, epoxy/2-pack primed and painted

Swingarm rebuilt with new pin and bushes, correctly reamed to specification

New steering head bearings fitted

Fibreglass bodywork professionally repaired

Bodywork refinished in 2-pack paint

Correct decals/stickers applied

Acrylic “flatter” clear coat applied for a period-correct finish

Front fairing finished in the correct contrasting blue tone as per original factory appearance

Suspension & Brakes

New fork tubes installed

Progressive fork springs fitted

High-performance fork valves fitted

New fork seals and associated components throughout

Forks and triple clamps finished in Cerakote

Ducati Dave (UK) supplied reference material to accurately replicate the original finish on the refurbished brake calipers

Engine & Mechanical

The engine underwent a full professional rebuild, including:

Cylinder heads fully reconditioned

New pistons fitted

New bearings fitted throughout

Replacement of worn components where required

Crankshaft professionally refurbished by Gowanloch Ducati

A Silent Hektik electronic ignition system has been fitted for improved reliability and performance.

Since completion of the rebuild, the motorcycle has covered approximately 500km, with engine revs carefully limited to 5,500rpm during running-in. The engine starts easily, runs smoothly and performs exceptionally well
A later-model kickstart lever is currently fitted for improved durability and usability, however the original kickstart lever is also included with the motorcycle, noting that the original design is generally regarded as somewhat fragile.

During the restoration process, some reproduction replacement parts sourced were found to be below acceptable quality standards. Consequently, wherever practical, original factory components were restored and reused to maintain authenticity and quality throughout the build.

This motorcycle represents a highly genuine, sympathetically restored and exceptionally well-preserved example of the iconic Ducati 900SS Square Case.

Only serious buyers are welcome.
