Here’s a chance to own a true café racer icon — a 1956 Triton 500, combining a Triumph pre-unit twin with a Norton Featherbed slimline frame. This machine was originally purchased for display in our showroom but deserved so much more. Now, after a thoughtful and sympathetic refurbishment, this Triton is very nearly ready to return to the road.

🛠️ Restoration & Features:

This Triton came to us in rough cosmetic shape — put away wet, with tired chrome and oxidised alloy — but its bones were exceptional, built using rare and desirable period parts, and well worth restoring.

Chassis & Frame:

  • Norton Atlas slimline featherbed frame (1963), checked and in great condition

  • Paint is solid — cut and polish only

  • Rear shocks replaced with Arion Pacific Industries dual-spring units

Engine & Transmission:

  • 500cc Triumph pre-unit twin with alloy head and barrel

  • Bench-tested and runs beautifully — appears recently rebuilt

  • Norton gearbox and clutch (a period-correct and desirable upgrade)

  • Lucas magneto ignition

  • Amal Monobloc carburettor, fully rebuilt with polished float bowl and ram tube

Wheels & Brakes:

  • Genuine Akront alloy rims, polished

  • Hubs, brake plates cleaned and painted

  • Tyres: Dunlop K81 front and rear

  • Single-leading shoe Atlas front and rear brakes

  • Wheels re-spoked, trued, and internals rebuilt

Forks & Suspension:

  • Norton Roadholder front forks, fully rebuilt

  • Painted trees and fork covers, polished to a satin finish

  • Arion Pacific Industries Clubman bars, 7" Lucas-style headlight

Bodywork & Finish:

  • Genuine Dunstall combo fuel/oil tank, painted silver, re-chromed filler caps

  • Genuine Dunstall seat, restored

  • Swept-back headers with Dunstall wide-mouth mufflers

  • Lucas 564 tail light repro by Arion

  • Polished alloy engine cases and covers

Electrics:

  • Custom wiring loom

  • 12V dead battery system — battery housed inside modified toolbox with fiberglass insert

  • Horn hidden beneath seat

  • Lighting system provides ~2hrs runtime before recharge

📜 Notes:

This Triton is not a kit or tribute — it’s a thoughtfully built vintage café racer that blends authenticity with functional upgrades. The engine, frame, and component choices are all in line with how serious Triton builds were done in the 1960s and ‘70s.

A few final details and tuning steps remain before it's 100% road-ready, but it’s very close to completion and will reward its next owner handsomely.
