Where a 1098 or R1 will flatter you with its user-friendly nature the Ducati is quick to tell you that you’re not good enough to ride it. It is the best handling road motorcycle ever built; you just need to be Casey Stoner to appreciate it. The Ducati Desmosedici RR is a limited-edition motorcycle produced by Ducati as a replica of their MotoGP racing motorcycle. The Desmosedici RR was manufactured in a limited quantity, and the specifications and features may vary depending on the specific model year.

In 2007, Casey Stoner won his first MotoGP World Championship aboard Ducati’s V4 Desmosedici racer. That same year, the Bologna brand would unleash one of, if not the most exotic and elite production motorcycle of the last 20 years with the Desmosedici D16RR (or “Race Replica”). Limited to just 1,500 units worldwide, the ultra-exclusive two-wheeler was the closest thing the public had ever seen to a MotoGP bike with headlights for sale.

Ducati’s MotoGP bike for the street also utilized a steel trellis frame derived from the brand’s premier class racer, and even the LCD display was plucked straight off the GP7. The whole thing rolls along on $20K Marchesini forged and machined magnesium wheels wrapped in special Bridgestone rubber developed exclusively for the D16RR. As one would expect on a motorcycle with a $70K+ sticker price (when new) the fit and finish on the Desmo RR is absolutely exquisite. Each of the 1,500 units was built by hand by a special team and each example bares a numbered plaque.

A thumbing of the start button snaps the V-4 engine to life, which quickly settles into a savage drone. The characteristic engine sound is largely due to offset crankpins that alter the firing order to improve the bike’s traction when drifting through corners. Like all street bikes, you nudge the Ducati into first gear by tapping the shift lever down with your left foot. Dial in a few thousand revs with your right hand, slip the clutch, and the Desmosedici rolls away. The engine isn’t fussy at all; in fact, you can putter around well below the power band or scream through the gears while tagging the 14,200-rpm rev limiter.

This model is number #711 and Australia delivered. The modifications on this one are a Ducati Performance upgraded exhaust. Grips have been wired shut to avoid any dramas when you pass your enemy on the track at the apex. To go with the upgraded exhaust comes a race STD ECU. This Ducati has had one owner and has the books, cover, plaque, manuals and OEM parts.
