The connoisseur/consumer is now provided an opportunity to purchase a racing-spec, road-legal motorcycle that otherwise would simply be unobtainable. The Ducati 999R is the closest thing a mere mortal will come to owning and riding the machines about to be proffered on the starting line by Ducati Corse back in 2003. The R-model departs from its 999 stable mates with a radically over-square high-revving engine: 104mm high-compression pistons run up and down on a 58.8mm stroke.

The connecting rods are titanium, as are the valves. In a world of perfect justice, the 999R is far too good to waste on the street. It belongs on the track. But wherever the lucky 500 owners elect to use their R-models, they will soon know a simple truth: The 999R is a motorcycle that can better take the measure of its rider than the rider can take the measure of the machine.

The R designates something special, some mad technical wizardry under the covers, and lots of carbon fiber. Once the stuff of aerospace, carbon has become the foundation on which fast motorcycles are born. Today’s example is a 999R, the third “R” in the series (following the 2002 998R).

Unlike many badge-engineered models (i.e. branding and “limited edition” number plate), the R bikes are special; they vary drastically from the standard Ducati models. In the case of the 998R, that means a different set of engine cases with a deeper sump, a significantly different bore and stroke (104.0 mm × 58.8 mm – which actually displaces 999 cc), and trick titanium internals. This is the Testastretta engine evolution that would go on to power the 999R.

These bikes you just don't see anywhere anymore. They are in museums around the world or in collector's living rooms. This one has been taken care of so well it's a double take to see how low the actual mileage is. This Italian perfection comes with a matching 999R cover and plaque that was given to the owner from when purchased. All the original books are still with the bike and the red key along with the spare black key. This is a Ducati numbered machine NO : 307 of 500 units made world wide. Feast your eyes on this piece of Italian History.

This fine example of a 2003 Ducati 999R, build number #307 of 500 world wide.

Built new in 2003, this 999R is certified by an official Ducati plaque confirming its authenticity.
Many of these 999R which have been advertised DO NOT HAVE THIS PLAQUE.
Bike was imported from Italy to Australia in 2017, and has never been registered.
The instrument cluster was replaced in Italy by Ducati at 9000km and now shows 926km.
